On 14 December 2014 he won the series finale at Wembley’s SSE Arena, defeating runner-up Fleur East. His victory earned a national audience and the associated recording contract.
As the X Factor champion, Haenow performed the show’s winner’s single on the final and immediately began recording in studio a customary post-show album deal with Cowell’s Syco Musicfollowed.
Haenow’s coronation single was a cover of OneRepublic’s “Something I Need.” It was released digitally on the evening of the final and went straight to the top of the UK Singles Chart.
First-week sales exceeded 214,000 copies, making it the Christmas No.1 single of 2014 and one of the fastest-selling tracks of the year.
“Something I Need” was a major commercial success it dominated the Christmas chart and established Haenow as a chart-topping artist. (Proceeds from the release were directed to charity in keeping with X Factor tradition.)
Following the show, Haenow spent much of 2015 working on his debut album. Recorded in Los Angeles under Syco/RCA, the self-titled album Ben Haenowwas released on 13 November 2015.

To promote the release, Haenow embarked on a 16-date UK headline tour in April 2016, playing venues from Norwich to Glasgow. These shows were billed as the first major tour of his career, showcasing tracks from his debut album.
After parting with Syco (see below), Haenow continued recording independently. His second studio album, Alive, was released on 25 May 2018. This album, written largely after his first tour, included several singles (such as “Alive” and “Rising”) and reflected his ongoing development as a singer-songwriter.
Haenow’s X Factor victory carried an automatic recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco label. He formally signed with Syco in early 2015 and began work on new material.
However, by January 2016 he and Syco mutually agreed to end their partnership. Haenow issued a statement expressing gratitude saying that working with The X Factorand Syco “has been the most amazing time of my life” but confirming “we both felt it was the right time to move on.”
This split allowed him to take full control of his career. After leaving Syco, Haenow continued to write and release music on his own terms. He maintains an independent status, overseeing production and distribution of his later recordings, including the Alivealbum.
