Chelsea & Battersea camera views
Reading Chelsea & Battersea in depth.
Albert Bridge has two catalogue sources, one on each bank. Together they describe two approaches to the same crossing, but they remain two separate views.
Choosing among the Chelsea & Battersea cameras
- Albert Bridge - Chelsea
The Chelsea-side setting, on Chelsea Embankment. Choose it for the approach from the north bank and the riverside edge around it.
- Albert Bridge - Battersea
The Battersea-side setting, described in the catalogue as looking north. Choose it for the opposite approach and the change of perspective across the river.
Choose by bank rather than by preference for a picture: the side you pick decides which approach to the crossing you are examining. The labels are a starting point for that decision, not a description of what each frame will contain.
What each frame can and cannot establish
The page titles name a bridge; the frames may show only a road approach or a sliver of river. Bridge structure and fine detail are not assured by the label.
A view labelled for Albert Bridge is not evidence that the bridge is the main subject of the frame.
The two banks have no verified shared capture time, so compare the angle and the crop rather than the traffic.
Practical questions to carry
- From the Chelsea side, what does the near end of the crossing conceal?
- From Battersea, where does the road line meet the edge of the frame?
- Does the river appear at all, and where does it sit relative to the bridge?
- How does the surface of the riverbank differ between the two approaches?
Clips, sources and further reading
Press Play only when movement answers a question the still cannot. The clip is assigned on demand, and its markings do not certify when it was taken.
Either bank can be unavailable without the other changing.
